Canada’s National Health and Fitness Day is a nationwide initiative that aims to promote physical activity and encourage Canadians to live healthier lifestyles. On the first Saturday of June each year, Canadians are encouraged to take part in various fitness activities and events, including fitness classes, group workouts, outdoor activities, and sports.

Did you know that National Health and Fitness Day spring-boarded off the Vancouver 2010 Olympics as a project to mobilize the spirt of the games and create a legacy of improved health for all Canadians? A private members’ bill was signed and passed unanimously through the Senate in June 2010. The National Health and Fitness Day initiative is supported by the Government of Canada (National Health & Fitness Day Association) which has developed the nationwide social media campaign to encourage all Canadians to get involved and make physical activity a regular part of their lives. Many local governments and organizations also take part in the event, hosting a variety of activities and events across the country.

Canada’s National Health and Fitness Day is an important reminder that physical activity is a crucial component of a healthy lifestyle. It is a reminder that small changes in our daily routines can have a significant impact on our overall health and well-being. It also provides an opportunity for individuals and communities and the fitness industry (clubs and studio owners and operators and fitness professionals) to come together, open their doors and invite members of their community to come together. The Fitness Industry Council of Canada (FIC) and canfitpro have worked together to bring awareness and promote participation on this day for several years. Together we communicate and lead by example (#LetsMoveCanada).

canfitpro will be promoting June 3rd’s National Health and Fitness Day on our social media channels, and we invite all our members and industry partners to join us in raising our collective voices to spread a message of hope, fitness, and health for the future of our country.

Here are six simple ways you can take action to bring attention to this important day to celebrate with your friends, family, clients, and colleagues while leveraging and elevating your business and brand!

1. OPEN your club to the public to welcome and help build community.

One of the most potent and influential things we can do to propel our industry forward is to open our doors free to the public to demonstrate to all those in our community how inviting our fitness spaces are. Opening our club doors to the public helps reduce barriers to many who might normally be shy to come in on their own. This has been an ongoing practice and initiative strongly endorsed by the FIC, and canfitpro promotes the same.

2. Post a photo of your class and post on social media.

Help promote National Health and Fitness Day by sharing the magic from your studio. Post a selfie or photo of you and your fitness friends to spread the energy of your community with the world.

Don’t forget to use hashtags #LetsMoveCanada #canfitpro #FIC.

3. Teach an outdoor training session or fitness class.

Your impact doesn’t have to stay within the four walls of your studio. Why not get outdoors? Getting outdoors and moving are two great ways to boost your mental health and physical energy. It’s a great way to create variety for yourself and your clients, and it can be a great way to get the attention of others in your community. Set up on your street, in your neighborhood, in a parking lot to make your fitness offering more available and accessible and get more people active.

4. Post Your three favourite moves on social!

Fit pros understand the joy of movement and what better way to spread our passion and energy than by sharing our favourite moves? Use the following template and create a social post or Instagram Reel and share!

Move #1 – Cardio

Move #2 – Strength

Move #3 – Flexibility

You can encourage your community to make a circuit by doing each move for 20 seconds with a 10 second break and repeat three times. That will make for a five-minute movement boost!

Remember to use hashtags #LetsMoveCanada #canfitpro #FIC. We would love to see your moves and repost!

5. Reach out to one person you know who needs your motivation.

There is no better time than National Health and Fitness Day to reach out and inspire someone you know who has been talking about getting more active and encourage them to join you in getting moving on June 3. Who is that someone who would benefit from hearing this message? Invite them to go for a walk or do some kind of recreational activity. Imagine if every canfitpro certified member reached out to one individual urging them to move just 10-30 minutes on this day. That would be over 20,000 Canadians we would be influencing and potentially changing their lives.
