Chocolate Mousse

For me December is the happiest month of the year and for many reasons. It is one full month of anticipation, laughter, great food, awesome company and somewhat overwhelming joy.

Growing up, the biggest celebration in my family was New Years Eve. We would open gifts and stay up all night just to “greet” the New Year. I would wear my prettiest dress and spend hours getting ready waiting for that magical night all year long. Now that I am grown up a lot has changed; I still love the holiday spirit, getting gifts for friends and loved ones, making healthy and tasty treats and of course, experimenting in the kitchen with real ingredients. Health is one of those things we cannot buy, so my mission is to share all my creations with you that will nourish a healthy mind, body and soul.

Avocados are rich in healthy fats that help the skin, hair, eyes, nerves and brain. This “Chocolate” Mousse is definitely not candy. It is real food anyone will enjoy. Because avocados have a mild taste they can be added to many dishes. In this recipe I added bananas which are packed with magnesium, the “happy” mineral, and some raw cocoa which is high in Iron and fibre.

Cocoa is a natural antidepressant as well as antioxidant. It contains phenylethylamine which helps with stabilizing mood. Some studies have shown that cocoa may boost endorphins, also known as the “happy” hormones which are usually experienced after physical activity, laughter, or sex. Antioxidants are needed for health and to keep our bodies young.

Ingredients:

  • Avocado: 1
  • Cacao powder: 2 Tbs
  • Banana: 2
  • Vanilla: 1 tsp
  • Honey: if desired, add to taste

Second layer:

  • Greek yoghurt plain: 1/4 c
  • Honey: 1 tbsp
  • Vanilla bean
  • Walnuts

Directions:

In a food processor, add all ingredients for the chocolate layer. Blend on high until consistent. Set aside.

In a bowl or food processor, add the second layer ingredients. Mix well and set aside.

In a serving dish, place each one at a time to create the layered look.

Enjoy your way to great health.
